Based on the premise that a picture is worth a thousand words, this edition will consist largely of pictures. Fourteen residents, twenty-five faculty, three wives and two children have attended this Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons’ Basic Surgical Principles conference. The day starts at 6:00 AM with small group studies and prayer and goes until 9:00 PM each evening – but there is great times of worship, fun, sharing and eating too much interspersed between the lectures and workshops. It is a pleasure to watch the residents interact and soak in all that they are learning, both medical and spiritual. What a blessing this time has been. I have really enjoyed the face-to-face time with the Program Directors and faculty.
I will be involved through Thursday and then on Friday morning, drive five hours to Arusha Medical Centre in Tanzania. Dr. Carl Haisch and Dr. and Mrs. Jim Brown will be visiting with me. They have requested that we consider starting another PAACS program here. This week, we were pleased to meet with Dr. Joe Starke and Dr. Yacoubou Sanoussi from Galmi, Niger and our plans are to start another program there in 2012. God is good! All the time.
- Please pray for the closing time in this conference. Pray that this will be something that sticks with our residents and blessed our faculty.
- Pray for our trip to Tanzania. Pray for traveling safety, for discernment and for God’s will in the matter.
- Pray for our friend, Dr. Carol Spears, who has severe bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. This is painful and devastating for a surgeon not to be able to use her hands.
- Pray for Micky and Sean while we are apart.
This has been a very tiring week but a real blessing. God is moving through PAACS and it is an honor to be a small part.
Yours, for the peoples of Africa,
Bruce for Micky and Sean
