The 35th CMDA-CMDE (Continuing Medical & Dental Education) conference wound up yesterday. It was a real blessing for all of us. This week, I caught up on my own CME requirements, attended two commission meetings, and then I taught three more sessions of Basic Life Support including a special “Friends and Family” session. Micky and Sean took that course and did a wonderful job. I was proud of them.
The days were long with breakfast or lunch meetings most days, seven lectures each day, worship services, the BLS and evening services. For some attendees, it was complicated by a viral epidemic that put them under the weather for a day or two. Micky and Sean were stricken last week but did well this week. I remained too ornery to get sick, I guess. The children’s camp is a big deal for the children and the young families; Sean considers it the highlights of the year for him. Tuesday night, we had an out-of-doors gala dinner and the children’s program presented. Sean enjoyed participating in the teen’s very clever skit.
Looking ahead, after I return home on March 15, I will be spending a lot of time addressing some issues within PAACS. One of them is the exams for this year. Carl Haisch has spent much of the time in Thailand constructing the next set of PAACS exams (two 200 multiple choice exams) and I will be up next to do final editing and formatting. We will send them out to a few of the program directors to review them and then get ready for the big day on June 6. I hope also to find a bright young college student in Fayetteville to do some of the Excel and statistical analysis of surgical cases that we need to do.
Some other things on the schedule:
March 20, 21 – a meeting in Durham of the Christian Academic Surgeons
March 25 – speak twice about PAACS at the new medical school at Liberty University. A lunch meeting with the CMDA student group and that evening in a public forum.
April 17 – 18 – fly to Chicago for the CMDA-CMDE Commission meeting to plan next year’s conference in Greece
April 25 – 28 – a few days rest in the Gatlinburg area (courtesy of the CMDA-PAACS Commission)
April 28 – May 1 – the CMDA annual meeting in Ridgecrest NC (near Asheville) where I will be receiving the Educator of the Year award.
May 3 – May 10 – fly to California to meet our new grandchild.
Prayers and Praise:
- Praise God for the safe travel thus far. Please pray for the Bruce’s visit to Bangladesh as Micky and Sean return home.
- Pray for the ongoing search for a Chief Development Officer for PAACS.
- Please pray for our daughter Michelle and the remainder of her pregnancy
- Pray for Bethany as she seeks a new therapist. Please pray that God will provide a breakthrough for her.
- Please pray for Bruce’s continued adjustment to his new role within PAACS.
- Please pray for continued issues within the PAACS family – all of our programs are under stresses of various sorts and some very serious.
Yours, thrilled to be serving the King,
Bruce, Micky and Sean
